wow! it has been weeks since i last came online!
Reverie II is OVER! hahaha i hope it was a great show! it was the first time and probably the last time that i would be involved in such events.. the feeling was great! coz the whole event belonged to every single tj dancer and i thought we were quite bonded.. after going through so much for the past 1 year.. the feeling was different when i was involved in the lake odyssey even though it was held in esplanade which was a much better place coz that event belonged to the whole school.. so what if i screwed myself there! there were other performing groups to cover it up :D
we had been through so much while preparing for reverie II.. and i dont know how to blog everything down. the regular visitors of my blog should have an idea how it was like preparing for the night since most of my previous posts were just complaining about the life. hahaha. i dont think my language will be powerful enough to express all my feelings too. so i shall just briefly describe what happened on the last week of preparation.
monday
there was supposed to be a full run in school.. with zaki and ms wee vetting the items. but i was sick! for goodness sake it was definitely too late to be unwell. i had diarrhoea + headache + severe body aches. i didnt go for dance in the end coz i thought health is still more important afterall.
tuesday
i was feeling abit better.. i felt unsafe not going for dance again so i went.. we practised with ms wee the items that we thought were more unprepared.. everything went smoothly and we left school at 9.30pm? :x but well.. that would be the last time we'd stay in school for dance night anyway.
wednesday
there wasnt dance today but we stayed behind in sch to pack our costumes while the rest of the sch went down to support the bball and vball finals. there were so many costumes and props that i had to use a box to pack them in. some others who were involved in more dances even had to use luggages!
thursday
there was a half day for us! after sch we had a quick lunch and gathered at the dance studio. loaded our boxes and luggages as well as props onto the lorry.. and then we got on the bus and headed to kallang theatre. when we reached zaki was already sitting at the audience seat and staring at the stage :x then he was ordering us to go get changed into t-shirts quickly coz it's odd to dance with uniforms. at that time we were scared coz he sounded so fierce! and the whole rehearsal was very serious.. strictly no fooling around and no phototakings :x after we got changed we did warm-ups under the stage while the stage crew set up the lights and made sure everything was in place. they took so long to do that so we were behind schedule.. every dance had only 5 mins to do blocking instead of 15mins.. the whole blocking thing lasted till 8 plus or so.. and of coz throughout the whole blocking procedure zaki barked at us for standing at the wrong positions and our diagonals not parallel blah blah blah. but he didnt give us time to remember where we were supposed to stand! my god then whats the point of doing blocking. there were black tapes across the stage to help us mark our positions. strangely when we thought we were in line with the person beside us zaki scolded us for being out of the line coz he was looking at us from the audience seats.
"u are suppose to be in line from the audience's view. not your own's."
but how the hell were we supposed to know if we were in line with the person beside us from the audience's view if the black tapes didnt help at all?
after all the marking of positions we were supposed to have dinner. but since we were behind schedule we had to rush.. as we ate our dinner we got changed into our costumes and prepared ourselves for the full dress rehearsal. it was damn scary la although i dance the same thing for like a million times before i came but dancing on the theatre stage was just a different experience. some of us didnt even have time to change.. so during the handkerchief part of the chinese dance some pple were still wearing the pink trousers while some had already changed into the white pants. some of us didnt know when to go on stage and so we either went in late or didnt even go up at all. alot of such problems cropped up and the whole full dress rehearsal, i would say, was screwed. ms wee said the whole thing looked raw and energy level was low. of coz it was worrying coz the real thing was less than 24 hours away. zaki threatened that he would fine anybody who makes a mistake during the rehearsal on friday. *smacks forehead* we ended the rehearsal at 11pm.
friday
reached the theatre at 8.30am. zaki was late so yinghuan decided we should do our own blockings first. halfway through the chinese dance item he came and he started roaring at people who were off positions again. he saw a few items which he thought was messy and after that we proceeded to the rehearsal for curtain call. we always thought curtain calling was easy. just walk out to the stage and bow and clap only what.. but zaki planned everything meticulously which was actually good la. we had to rehearse the curtain call for like 5 times or so.. walking in and out of the stage :x after curtain call we had to get ready the props to do the lighting.. every item had to get on stage and zaki as well as the guy in charge of lighting will decide the lighting effects for it. and then we had lunch.. i didnt even have time to finish my lunch and zaki suddenly called us for a full run with the lighting O_O oh well.. so we had to run through everything with the props and lighting but without our costumes. nicholas was still having lunch at that time and he was eating with his hands coz it was faster that way. so we asked him if he was a malay. HAHA! but he is a MALAYSIAN! lol. he was damn funny la.. he ran onto stage to dance with his hands holding rice and he was licking his fingers as he danced. LOL! during some parts of the dance when he was supposed to be off stage he went back to his rice again. hahaha! that happened several times coz zaki kept asking them to repeat the same part so whenever he got back to his rice i would ask him "lunch?" :p
that was the last time we rehearsed on stage. by the time we finished the run it was already 4 plus.. and zaki said we should go do our hair and costumes and have dinner. DINNER?! but i havent even finished my LUNCH! omggg my unfinished chicken rice was still on my dressing table la. so i used the time to get changed and did my hair and makeup.. i also folded the red ribbon for chinese dance into flowers that were supposed to explode into the ribbon on stage. (if u were there for the performance u should have seen.. it exploded into ribbons as we flung the flowers into the air at the beginning of the dance) so it was rather pressurizing to fold the flowers. what if they dont open up or if they get entangled up on stage? the other dancers trusted me to do the job.. haha. but it's like folding parachute la.. if the parachute fails to open in the air then

die! hahaha.. luckily the flowers did open up on stage la.. haha thanks to weiling who imparted the folding skills to me :)
there was buffet for dinner but i didnt have time to eat in the end.. i was so scared i would feel hungry on stage and lose my balance while i dance.. haha. i think there's something wrong with my blood coz i feel dizzy easily and i feel drowsy most of the time :x everything was so rush.. we were supposed to do warm-ups at 7pm but we were still doing our hair.. too few pple know how to braid hair already so many people ended up waiting. the make-up was tedious too. zaki wanted us to have smokey eyes. how the hell do we go about drawing it? we ended up just smearing black eye shadows on our eyelids and the whole backstage looked like some halloween party coz people were walking around with scary black make-ups and half done hair :p
we started warm-ups at like 7.20pm instead. something terrible happened during warm-ups. the floor was slippery and dixie fell. she was already injured during the practices and i thought the fall aggravated it. we were all very worried and we didnt know how to handle such a situation. we felt helpless as she cried and some of us couldnt help but cry together with her. she was in pain and so she couldnt dance the opening item anymore.. can u imagine working so hard for months for a dance and just because of a fall u cant present it on stage anymore? i cant imagine how i would feel if i were her.. the feeling must have been devastating.
we were affected emotionally by that incident. however ms wee gave us a last briefing before we went on stage and she definitely helped us lift up our spirits. after the briefing we gathered at the backstage and waited for the emcee to start the event. it felt really horrible waiting.. "what if i lose my balance? what if i forget my steps? what if i'm out of blocking?" a lot of "what if"s came to my mind. and luckily i dont have a weak heart.. otherwise i'll die from heart attack coz my heart was beating so fast.
after my chinese dance item i was busily helping people to change.. the backstage was in a total mess.. there were even bras lying around and costumes were all over the place! hahaha. but anyway, the one and only item that i thought i did better was blues! it was the first time and only time that i completed a dance correctly without doing the wrong steps or forgetting my blocking! then as nicholas ran out of the stage when his part of the dance was over he saw me and he asked "lunch?" HAHA! i'm going to miss reverie II because of this too!
hehe. and then was MTV. during the bollywood mtv someone went in late or something :x and then amanda didnt have time to wear her skirt properly so throughout the dance we stared at her skirt as it drops lower and lower.. we were SO SCARED the skirt would drop and expose her brown leotard inside! omgggg. we held our breath as we stared at her skirt and just as she completed the dance with her skirt still on, we cheered like mad for her!! PHEW!!
it was crazy trying to change into my english mtv costumes coz it was right after chinese mtv! after the lights were off for the chinese mtv i dashed across the backstage and quickly grabbed my costumes and put them on. i didnt even take off my mickey top and black leggings! i wore everything inside and i felt like a dumpling as i got onto stage for english mtv :x oh and my blues shorts were also beneath my leggings! *smacks forehead.
everything went on smoothly after that though.. when the curtains were down we went screaming and cheering!
"IT'S OVER!!!"
"I CAN FINALLY DO MY TUTORIALS!"
were some of the things that i heard. everyone was so high and most of us cried. after months of hard work we finally put up a great show.. we also thought we would miss each other a lot.. i know this sounds crazy but i thought i might miss zaki's scoldings as well! hahaha! and i'll definitely miss ms wee.. she knows my name! :D she helped to do my hair at the backstage and she had always been a great instructor to me.. she was patient while she guided me along and she's so friendly! hahaha as much as i wanted so much for the night to be over coz i was already getting very sick of the practises and rehearsals.. i also didnt want to end the night coz it was such a memorable experience! it was really great having to know the dancers and the bond among us has definitely strengthened as we went through the hard times together.
WE SURVIVED! :D
i would like to express my gratitude to all the people who encouraged me when i was struggling to survive the intensive practises everyday.. and thanks to all those who came down to support me last night! thanks for all the flowers and chocolates! :D also thanks to the dancers von jie, aprine, rachel for the flowers! u guys are so sweet! thanks ms lee for the chocolate + teddy! thanks clement and ben for getting food for us and are always there to help us out :) thanks to the SC people who skipped school to help us with the backstage stuffs.. thanks to our instructors for all their guidances! and of coz thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of reverie II! :D
even though we might have been unhappy with some of our fellow dancers during the preparation period.. i thought it might be due to the fact that we were all exposed to lots of stress and so we werent in very good mood. i hope it wont affect our bonding..
sometimes i feel quite lucky that i came to tj coz if i were to stay in vj i could only perform in the school's performance theatre which is quite pathetic :x even the old kallang theatre can make the event look grander.
i still love what we always shout when we stack our palms together before every performance.
